Today South Africa announced that it will bid for the 2020 Olympics! That doesn't mean that they will get them (remember, Chicago lost out to Brazil for the 2016 Olympics) but I'm very excited about the idea of bringing the Olympics to Africa for the first time. No African nation has ever hosted the Olympic Games so it would be really cool if South Africa was the first!Interestingly, 2016 will also be a first -- it'll be the first time the Games have been held in South America. It's hard to believe that given the number of skilled athletes from South America, the continent has never actually hosted the Olympic Games. That will all change in 2016 when Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, hosts! Very exciting!
